Magnitude and pattern of facility-based disrespect and abusive treatment of women during childbirth in Abia State, Nigeria

Objectives: To ascertain the prevalence and pattern of reported facility-based disrespect abuse women during labour in Abia State, South-East, Nigeria.Design: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based studySetting: One urban one rural healthcare facility State- Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia Nigerian Christian Hospital (NCH) Nlagu, respectively.Participants: total 312 who were recently delivered their babies two facilities State attending postnatal clinics sampled for survey.Main Outcome Measure: Disrespect D&A) among give birth State.Result: In all, over half (54.5%) experienced (50% 63.5% areas). The commonest form was non-confidential care (22.9%). disrespectful abusive received lack privacy ward (18.3%).Conclusion: study recorded a high delivery State. Training re- raining providers to promote respectful care, advocacy policy makers stakeholders on development maternal policies further research area are needed.
